Finish What You Start: 2019 Goals

Hello Everyone,

My name is Shynette Porter but most people call me Shy. I just wanted to create a blog not only to share my personal experiences but to hopefully help inspire any and everyone who reads my posts. I can't say I have been through the worst of things but some of the things that I've been through I realize weren't meant for me to keep to myself but to lay stepping stones for someone else to persevere. I strongly believe in helping others and this is just another way for me to do that outside of my family, friends, organizations and strangers I meet.

I am from the lovely city of Houston, TX. My long term goal in life is to create a foundation and scholarship for women in engineering.

I am currently a student at the University of Central Oklahoma but I plan on transferring back to The University of Oklahoma in Fall 2017 to graduate with my Electrical Engineering degree May 2018. I started my school journey in Fall 2009 and I was doing well for myself until Spring 2013. I was in my senior year when life took a turn for the worse and I had to take a break from school. My blog will slowly unravel the lessons I learned when I wasn't in school, what it took to get back in school and now how to stay determined to walk across the stage.

I named my blog Breaking BarrierZ because in life you have to constantly break through barriers that were meant to either be a blessing or a lesson rather it be obstacles, challenges, habits, coping methods and etc. And also there are many ways to get to one destination that you desire, which is why I made the S a Z in barrierZ. You have "A to Z" options and plans to get to your desired goal.

My blog will focus on chasing your dreams and persevering no matter what it takes. Topics will range from having a strong and positive mentality to the benefits of networking. I'm excited to open my world to you and I hope you enjoy what I have in store. Thank you for your support!
